Wow, what an emotional weigh-in! I think both Caitlin and Daina were quite shocked to fall under the yellow line together and put the alliance under more strain to eliminate one of their own.
I have really tried not to get too emotionally involved with the contestants but when these two lovely sisters fell below together it was impossible not to feel for them - especially when I have grown up as a sister myself. That heartbreaking moment aside, Phil's record breaking loss of more than 14kg was truly a testament to his dedication.
Going into this elimination was the toughest one yet for me. I have grown more and more attached to these wonderful people as the filming progresses and to see such loving and supportive sisters separated was emotional for everyone. Daina was eliminated (to no great surprise). With the alliances now so obviously split, I think it was the best decision to make, seeing Caitlin has a more challenging journey ahead of her compared to Daina. I have no doubt Daina will be a tough competitor in the 42km marathon and may just be back in the game.
I wasn't filming with the guys at Bondi but at the following day's filming of the chocolate temptation I was filled in as to how amazing it was to leave the BL compound and go patrolling and training with Bondi Rescue guys.
Shannon was so excited to fill me on his 'new love' for the water and I was so extremely proud of how far he has come. The first day I met Shannon he said "Hi, I'm Shannon...please don't make me swim!" Of course I was shocked that he thought I would make him do anything, but his obvious fear of the water was something that I hoped he could overcome while on the show…and he's exceeded that!
At the chocolate temptation you could smell the heavy scent of cocoa filling the room. I'm not a big chocolate lover but this was incredibly tempting. The wheels were loaded up with prizes and of course, the most important prize - immunity. At this stage of the game, immunity is everything so it was not a huge shock when we had more than a couple of contestants try their luck.
Rick was probably the most unfortunate player, having eaten the most calories with no prizes to show for his indulgence, but you have to be in it to win it (apparently this is the case, although I have played the golden casket every Saturday for ten years with nothing over a $20 win to show). Luck was on David's side and immunity was his and also control over the game.
This week is a 1v1 week. David had to pit one contestant against each other in a week long battle culminating in a showdown at the weigh-in. I felt for Dave because he really was put in a difficult position, no matter what pairings he made. Jarna and Lisa was one couple pitted against one another and that was a terribly sad situation to witness. These two amazing ladies came into the house barely knowing one another and now they are virtually inseparable, so to have to go up against one another must have been heartbreaking for them.
We ventured out to Olympic Park for the 1v1 challenges and it was tension city! I could plainly see the emotions running high within each pairing and it was quite interesting to witness the different ways the contestants handled the situation. A few were beaten before the challenge started while others seem more focused and sure of victory. Phil, Lisa, Rick and Shannon came out as victors and have the advantage going into the weigh-in.
Lisa thankfully had a visit from her husband, Campbell, and beautiful daughters, Chelsea and Tegan. You don't often get to witness such amazing moments between families but this was one that I will never forget. The obvious love and adoration that these two girls have for Lise was incredible…and when Campbell saw Lisa, it was like something out of the movies. We were all so happy for her and so relieved that it was finally her turn for a family visit.
P.S. I'm looking for a great bircher muesli recipe if anyone has one!
