Well, the contestants have arrived home from New Zealand with renewed vigour and enthusiasm. I think a change of scenery and the fact that they were able to achieve so many different things overseas has given them even more confidence and willpower to train harder than ever before.
There is a definite feeling of pressure in Camp BL now though! Our remaining four contestants are really starting to believe they could be in the final four, but you can easily see that they also have that underlying sense of fear that the 42km is just around the corner (where two eliminated contestants will return) and then of course, we still have Phil and Joe returning.I was able to take the pressure off them a bit this week by announcing that there would be no elimination. This was fantastic news for them all but the happiness was short lived as they all faced the reality of low weight-loss results. It's my own personal worst nightmare when I see their hopeful faces quickly change to despair when they see low weight loss results after all of their hard work. I find it very hard not to race right up here and give them a little cuddle and tell them how proud I am of what they have achieved.
Dave was no doubt in shock over his result! Gaining weight at this stage of the competition is not an ideal scenario for anyone but he is a very competitive man so it goes without saying that he was devastated. As a result, he had to give up his double bracelet and hand it over to the Biggest Loser of the week - Lisa (who made the decision to keep it). Shannon was finally given the opportunity for the first time since the bracelets came into play, to relinquish his nothing bracelet and hand it over to Dave. Not only is Dave now wearing the most undesirable piece of jewelery available due to his weight gain, but unfortunately he also couldn't play for immunity at this week's challenge. A double whammy for Dave this week so I really feel for him.
The trainers and contestants were asked to meet me in the big gym for a surprise reveal! I feel bad knowing things before the contestants do...it feels like I'm betraying them! They learned pretty quickly though that I don't run the show or plan the events or challenges but for some reason I wish I could give them advance notice sometimes of the day's events so things are not such a shock...but I think this was one of those reveals that was not as much 'scary', but possibly gave them extra motivation to train even harder than they have been. I revealed a sneak peek of the two castaweights - Phil and Joe, and a little snippet of where they are and how hard they are training. Needless to say, the contestants are pumped...but a little worried!
I love the challenges! They are my absolute most favourite day of filming (maybe 2nd favourite after the cooking segments with Janella). I think the old athlete is still buried deep down in the dark recesses somewhere because I really love to see a close or competitive challenge and with this show, the contestants really give it their all to come out on top. This was one of my favourite challenges and it really was quite an interesting one to call because Shannon, Lisa and Phoebe are such amazing friends that I had absolutely no sense of anyone's strategy. I think our two girls have so much love and admiration for Shannon that they forgot what a threat he is on weigh-in days and they inevitably allowed him to win immunity. Shannon was unbelievable in this challenge and he really showed just how much strength he was developed since being at CBL. Nice one Shann!!
Okay, I know I've said that I love Janella's cooking segments and also 'challenge days', but the day I was given the opportunity to take a swimming session/lesson with the contestants was amazing. I was just asked to do whatever I wanted, no scripts, no rules, just for me to take a session with Lisa, Dave and Pheebs and then a bit of one-on-one time with Shannon. I must admit, I was very nervous because back in Brisbane I own a swim school where I coach primary school age children which I'm very confident doing, but to have to take a class with a 24-year-old guy who essentially is still in the process of working on his fear of water is a little scary. I really wanted to do a good job and after it, I realised how much I still love my normal day job and how far Shannon has come with his fear of water - what an inspirational he is! I could have spent hours there with all of them but filming is always quite tight so it was a very quick session but I loved it - the best day I've had on set!
To all lovers of TBL, I am truly grateful to all of your support and feedback. We are nearly at the end of filming and I will miss everything, especially writing this blog.
