Since Phil had seen his own family the previous week, he gave away his Biggest Loser prize to Joe, who was over the moon to spend time with his beloved girlfriend Lucy. Phil thought there were no more surprises in store after Lucy had arrived but boy, was he wrong. When Hayley told him there was another visitor, the look on Phil’s face when he saw Canterbury Bulldogs legend Hazem El Masri at the top of the parade ground steps was priceless.
A rabid Bulldogs fan, Phil ran across the parade ground to hug Hazem like he was a long lost family member before demonstrating the depth of his Bulldogs devotion by showing Hazem all his Bulldogs tattoos. Apparently, if the Bulldogs change their logo more than once, it’s not a problem with ink-happy Phil!
Thursday night saw Chris take the money and run - $15,000, to be exact. We felt for him since he was so upset, but hearing him explain how he felt it was better to leave with something now instead of zip in a couple of weeks, you could understand where he was coming from.
Shannon kept his spirits up despite the loss of his former partner. In Friday night’s Masterclass challenge, he gave his salesman skills a workout, even poaching cyclists from his competitors’ breakfast stalls. The contestants worked in teams to tempt the most hungry cyclists to sample their healthy breakfasts and we’ve gotta say, their offerings looked pretty good to us…mmm, pancakes. The cyclists thought the same and Dave, Phoebe and Rick won a coveted spot on the Masterclass shield. A sceptical Rick also now knows that, yes, cheese can be part of a pancake experience, courtesy of Phoebe’s ricotta know-how.
In typical fashion, Phil humbly celebrated his jaw-dropping loss of 14.7kg at the weigh-in with a Bulldogs tribute and a shout-out to his missus. His loss was the highest weekly weight loss percentage – 13.04% - in Australian Biggest Loser history. Go Phil!
Having sisters under the yellow line, Daina and Caitlin, was always going to raise the emotional stakes in the elimination room. Having sent home Daina, which is what the sisters had wanted, Joe, Rick, Phil and Dave earnt Caitlin’s thanks and the others, her anger. Showing how much she is changing, though, Caitlin almost immediately apologised to Shannon, Jarna, Lisa and Phoebe, saying she doesn’t want to be the angry, bitter person she once was. Go Caitlin!
There might not have been much sunshine, but the ocean air and healing waters did the trick after such a tense spell at Camp Biggest Loser, when the contestants trained with the Bondi Rescue boys. Hopefully it’ll stand them in good stead for the hard slog ahead!
