Things didn’t go so well at Phil and Joe's weigh-in with the Commando, when Phil was incredibly shocked to find he had gained 4.9kg – “a savage blow,” as Phil described it. It was a week of shocks for Phil when his elation at winning the 21km gave way to complete surprise when the Commando rolled up in an army truck to take Phil and Joe away. Newly shorn and shaved, the boys now face five weeks training in harsh conditions with a harsh taskmaster. Phil or Joe will win their final weigh-in to land a place in the final four at the end of it, surely making the pain worth it.
Last week began with a watery challenge which was good fun to watch, with the contestants balancing on beams across a pool and trying to banter each other into the drink, it seemed. Pheebs won immunity or as she put it, “this lovely, cosy, warm, delicious blanket” to keep her safe at weigh-in.
The contestants’ efforts in the half marathon were truly impressive, especially Phoebe getting up and finishing when she was looking pretty bad for a while there. Once Phil and Joe were in the Northern Territory with the Commando, we felt for them in their first training session, batting flies away in the heat and dropping in the hot sand. As they bedded down in the open, their swags beside a camp fire, the comforts of Camp Biggest Loser must have felt a world away.
Janella’s choice of orange couscous with apricots, sultanas and yoghurt as a breakfast dish raised a few eyebrows in Masterclass, but for the record, we’ve been told it’s very delicious. We enjoyed the visit from Michelle's dog too; canines always make a game of Frisbee complete.
When elimination was over with and Michelle and Shannan took the contestants for a training session on Manly Beach, we were truly jealous. We want to go surfing with Layne Beachley! It was particularly cool how she made the contestants set new specific goals, asking Lisa what was it she was aiming for – 65 or 70kg? None of this wishy-washy “65-70kg." Lisa, bless her heart, stepped up to 65kg and judging from the determination and confidence of the five contestants left at Camp Biggest Loser, we have no doubts they will do everything they can to nail their new milestones.
